Urbanity

Urbanity must be on some sort of ‘best places to brunch/breakfast in Dublin’ list, because, when I got there, at 10 this morning, the place was heaving.

It’s located in the quaintly named Coke Lane, between Smithfield and the Liffey, in a modern building with a glass frontage. Award plaques and tasteful neon adorn the front. It’s advertised as a walk-in place so that’s what I did.

Kitchen 101

Yes. I know it’s been a while. Eventful times. Anyway, it’s good to be back. Just over a week ago, Kitchen 101 opened in Terenure village, just beside Marios on Terenure Road East. There have been at least four, maybe five, restaurants on that site since Marios opened. It’s a […]

Mayfield

Although Mayfield seems to have been an institution in Terenure for ever, it opened only in 2010 in a former butcher’s shop. Now the main part of it occupies a former abattoir. A promotion of sorts, I suppose. From being a prime location for banks, estate agents and hairdressers before […]

The Art of Coffee

It’s been a while. Sorry. The day job gets busy in May and June and restricts the time I have available to write things. This breakfast experience also happened a few weeks ago. I updated WordPress on my site as I was about to write this and the whole site […]

Urbun, Cabinteely

As middle of the night whims go, this was one of my better ones. I woke at 3.30am, mind flooding with all sorts of interesting thoughts. As I tossed and turned and tried to make sense of things, two items floated to the forefront of my mind: firstly, a work-related […]

DS&EMcM

Don’t judge me till you’ve tried it. McDonald’s Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin is a wondrous creation. Junk food at its absolute best. For this episode I was joined by the OH, Christine, and the younger lad, Edward. For the younger lad and me, journeying to a McDonalds for a […]

Cinnamon in Ranelagh

The young lad used to do karate in the Hombu Dojo in Ranelagh so I got to know what I suppose you might call this inner suburban village quite well over the years. It’s surrounded by expensive private housing so it’s a place where maybe customers have looser wallets than […]

Foam

Close to home this time. My home that is. Foam is on Terenure Place, just next to Terenure crossroads. It’s been open for, what, maybe a year and a half now and seems to have become a very popular breakfast/brunch spot mainly, but not exclusively, for families with young kids. […]

Cracked Nut

The Cracked Nut is a warm, inviting, comfortable sort of place in which to eat your breakfast. It’s kind of light grey in colour throughout so it shouldn’t feel so comfortable but, you know yourself, some places just feel good to be in and the Cracked Nut is one of […]
